I’ve started documenting my bicycle adventures in a similar fashion, and will be sharing those stories here. Please join me.

  • 2011, originally uploaded by john m flores. Panasonic GH2 with Pentax M50/F1.7 (via Fotodiox adapter)A new year is here with a bang and fireworks bursting over the New York City skyline. It gives me hope to read everyone’s well-wishes on Facebook, it’s like we as a species are prone to bouts of optimism, to wish…

  • Don’t throw away your old photos. Put them in a shoebox and stick them in the basement. Or put them on a hard drive and stick the drive in your safety deposit box. Just don’t throw them away. One day you’ll open up the dusty old box and find a photo that you didn’t think…

  • Looming. Large., originally uploaded by john m flores. Went into “The City” today (there is only one) to meet an old friend in town. Was ready to head out the door with the Pentax K20d and a fistful of primes, the Canon G10 as backup, and the Olympus XA to play with. At the last…

  • 1997 PAGES Medical Mission – more waiting, originally uploaded by john m flores. Do the math – 120-130 operations in a week is about 17-18 operations a day. For each patient there are 2 or more family members, resulting in a lot of people waiting for their turn. For those lucky enough to go first,…

  • 1997 PAGES Medical Mission – Family Waits, originally uploaded by john m flores. So the families come, hoping to be admitted so that their child’s cleft lip or cleft palate can be addressed. And they wait for their turn to speak with the nurses, to be seen by a doctor, for their chance. Cleft lip…

  • 1997 PAGES Medical Mission – Tricycle Transport, originally uploaded by john m flores. This how many arrive – parents, siblings and other family members with their children – on heavy steel sidecars attached to ancient small displacement 2-stroke motorcycles that fill the air with oil and high-pitched squeals. Tricycles, they call them, and they are…
